Businesses that Prioritise Transparency Have 21% Higher Profit Margins

The latest research shows that businesses that prioritise transparency have a 21% higher profit margin when compared to businesses that don’t. 

Business transparency is no longer nice to have, and if anything, it’s now a key driver of trust, engagement and profitability. 

As customers can compare brands in a matter of seconds, and employees expect more honesty from leadership, those who are open about how they operate and what’s going on behind the scenes will undoubtedly experience more success overall.

94% of Consumers Stay Loyal to Transparent Brands

Transparency has to be a big focus for businesses that want to scale efficiently. A good example would be Amazon, who have Prime-only deals that not only show the active discount, but also the quantity of items that are available at that price.

As for Patagonia, they launched The Footprint Chronicles to show exactly where their clothing is made and the carbon footprint associated with it, so consumers can gain a full idea of what they’re buying. There are also tags on games that are exclusive or new, so people on the site have a clear idea of what the site offers. 

Transparency like this is also good as it protects brands during harder economic periods. Studies show that 85% of people say that they are far more likely to stick with a company, even during challenging economic times, if they have a history of being honest. Consumers are also willing to pay more for products that are sustainable or ethically sourced, if companies can prove their claims.

Profit Margins and Transparency in Business

Businesses that put workplace transparency first also see profit margins that are 21% higher than average, according to sites like Business Management Daily. By having open communication, businesses and their employees can define expectations more efficiently, and employees can also understand company goals more clearly. 

Not only does this have a big impact on things like stress and burnout, but it also greatly improves productivity and morale. 87% of workers say that they put transparency as one of the most important qualities when seeking a new job, which includes honesty regarding pay, career progression, and culture. 

Interestingly, and especially with sites like Glassdoor, we are also seeing salary visibility improving. Glassdoor not only allows employees to see previous interview questions, but also the current salary rates, what the company is like to work for, and any workplace benefits that are offered. Statistically, the UK leads Europe in salary transparency, with 34% of employees knowing the salary bracket for their particular role.

As more data comes out, especially from trustworthy websites like Slack, it’s becoming more and more evident that modern businesses have to start putting transparency and openness first, as this is the clearest pathway to higher profit margins, longer team retention, faster growth and more overall success. Businesses that do this will be the ones left standing.
